Don Egolf

Growth Habit: Dwarf, compact; upright to rounded

A Chinese redbud variety; pinkish-mauve flowers; improved disease resistance & exceptional flower display; sterile, no seed pods

Eastern

Height & Spread: 20–30’H x 25–35’S
Growth Habit: Irregular when young; rounded, vase with age

Texas native; rosy-pink spring flowers; grows 12–24” per year; botanical name Cercis canadensis

Forest Pansy

Height & Spread: 20’H x 25’S
Growth Habit: Irregular when young; open, spreading with age

An Eastern redbud variety; Texas native; purple-pink spring flowers; grows 12–24” per year; maroon new spring leaves transition to mostly green by late summer

Merlot

Height & Spread: 12–15’H x 12–15’S
Growth Habit: Dense, semi-upright

A ‘Forest Pansy’ & ‘Texas Whitebud’ cross; burgundy spring foliage transitions to mostly green by late summer; bright pink spring flowers; Texas Redbud genes provide excellent drought tolerance & thicker, glossier leaves that resist summer heat stress.

Growth Habit: Open, rounded

Small, very glossy, blue-green, wavy-edged leaves & a smaller, shrubbier stature than Eastern or Texas redbuds; bright rose-violet spring flowers; exceptionally showy gold autumn foliage

Growth Habit: More compact than Texas redbud

A variety of Texas redbud; vibrant purple-red flowers (darker than those of Texas redbud); soft pink new growth matures to green; leaves are glossier & richer green than those of Texas redbud; highly drought-tolerant

Texas Redbud

The Texas redbud differs from the Eastern redbud in that the leaves are rounder, thicker, and very glossy. This variety is more drought and heat tolerant than its Eastern cousin.

Texas Whitebud

Growth Habit: Upright, rounded

Texas native; smaller, glossier leaves with slightly wavy edges, a generally smaller form, & more of a tendency to have red (vs brown) seed pods than Eastern redbud; white spring flowers
